Unyoked

A couple of hours south of Sydney, sits a simple cabin on private property’s edge. It’s nestled in a valley, sheltered between hills and towering canopy. It’s named “Coralie” and is one of a group of tiny, off-the-grid cabins by our twins and co-founders, Cam and Chris Grant at Unyoked.

Cabins are simple and well designed, catered for with the essentials, like good coffee, yoga mats and scrabble.

“We handcraft our experience to be unique and to focus on what we call the “little big things”, those touches that while not totally necessary really tie everything together and make the experience more consistent and meaningful. To do this we have worked with IN BED to develop a custom colour that reflects the nature around the cabin, the earth and forest that you’re part of out there. It’s a reflection of our philosophy of being in the landscape and not on it.” Chris

The cabins encourage you to spend time outdoors, sitting around the fire and cooking outside, looking out for local wildlife and stargazing.

Inside, however, there are comforts. Like a hot shower and a solar powered fridge to keep the beer cool.

“It’s pretty special being able to, for work, go and explore these epic off the grid locations. The whole team goes out and meets our Hosts, explores new sites and gets to feel the energy of these wilderness locations – it really reminds you about why we’re doing what we’re doing.” Chris

“The ability to build something to reflect the way we think things should be, not the way we’re told we need to. Too often we follow conventions and expectations just because. It’s pretty lucky to be able to create a company and an experience that helps us and others work and live the way we really want to.” Cam

“We’re heads-down at the moment opening 6 new locations across NSW and VIC, but soon we’ll be moving to some amazing areas in TAS, Northern NSW, ACT and QLD as well. The whole idea behind Unyoked is that we can help people get off the grid, escape the expectations of the 9-to5, when they need it most. Right now we’re booked out 6-7 nights a week, we really just want to grow a bit more so we can achieve that vision – and have a bunch of fun along the way.” Chris
