This week on the IN BED Journal we spend a sunny morning with creative producer Emily Eisen at the character-filled home she shares with her partner Scott and dog Ozzy. Over the past decade, Emily’s impressive body of work has found its groove at the intersection of fashion, food and lifestyle bringing her experience and passions together with stunning results. We spoke to Emily about finding her path as a creative, maintaining a mini-jungle at home as well as the joy of living just far enough out of the city.

“I’ve been in Mount Washington for the past few years, Scott has been here even longer. I love waking up and seeing the mountains and going for long walks around the neighborhood.”

“The bedroom is very minimal and I like it that way. We recently got these beautiful cord covers by our friend Kristin of Iko Iko, which makes even the most boring of things feel special. Minimal with a twist.”

“I love all of our plants, though at the moment it looks like we collect twigs as everything is dormant. I am also very attached to our endless amount of books, and collection of ceramics from all over the world.”

“I love feeling like we’re half in the city and half out and  the beauty of living on top of a hill. It’s so peaceful and the walks & views are incredible. But we’re still closeby to mainstays like Cookbook - a great little market with wonderful produce, wine and groceries, Kumquat for coffee, and El Arco for delicious Mexican food (the giant burritos).”

“I’m a creative producer in this hybrid space of food/ fashion/ lifestyle. I like to put the pieces together and really enjoy seeing a project come to life. I started my career in Fashion (fashion with a capital F), and soon realized that was not for me long term. I always felt an affinity for the food world so in 2013 found myself in Ireland, at cooking school. After that experience, I started to transition my career more towards food, though I feel most comfortable in the space where they intertwine, as they do so effortlessly.”

“I recently had the opportunity to work on the first book of one of my best friends, Natasha Pickowiz, who is an incredible pastry chef. The book is called More Than Cake which will be released on April 11th in the US. I was honored to creative direct and prop style the book.”

Lastly, we asked Emily what advice she has for people just starting out in the creative industries; her mantra… “Just keep going”.
